Twitter adding an option to ‘mute’ people

Blog
Twitter is introducing a way to silence noisy people you follow but aren’t quite ready to unfollow. The option, called “mute,” lets you hide the tweets and activity of selected accounts from your timeline. Muting someone won’t, however, stop the person from being able to interact with your tweets — be it favoriting, replying or retweeting. The fact that they are doing so just won’t show up in your timeline. To mute someone, click on the “more” link on individual tweets, then click “mute @username.” Muting can also be done from someone’s profile page by tapping the gear icon and selecting “mute @username.”This can be a convenient way to temporarily muffle people who, for example, are live tweeting an event or opining on a topic that you don’t much care about. Microsoft Internet Explorer fix

Blog
Microsoft has said users of its Windows XP operating system will also get the security update it has issued to fix a flaw in the Internet Explorer browser. It issued the update on Thursday to fix a bug that let hackers gain access and user rights to computers. Microsoft ended support for Windows XP earlier this month, ceasing to issue bug fixes or security updates for it. But the firm said it decided to make an exception as the flaw was discovered just days after the support ended. Snapchat Introduces Two New Features

Blog
The past few years have been a roller coaster for Snapchat, the ephemeral photo-messaging service. Since it started in 2011, the company has made headlines for turning down billions from potential buyers and luring heavyweight talent from Facebook, Google, and Amazon, facing criticism over gaping security vulnerabilities, and finding itself in a legal battle over ownership of the company’s original concept. And now the founders are hoping to transform the company’s product into something more sleek and sophisticated, a primary hub for mobile messaging. “Heartbleed” bug uncovering cyber-criminals

Internet and Media, News
The Heartbleed bug has turned cyber criminals from attackers into victims as researchers use it to grab material from chatrooms where they trade data. Discovered in early April, Heartbleed lets attackers steal data from computers using vulnerable versions of some widely used security programs.   Now it has given anti-malware researchers access to forums that would otherwise be very hard to penetrate. The news comes as others warn that the bug will be a threat for many years. French anti-malware researcher Steven K told the BBC: "The potential of this vulnerability affecting black-hat services (where hackers use their skills for criminal ends) is just enormous." Heartbleed had put many such forums in a "critical" position, he said, leaving them vulnerable to attack using tools that exploit the bug. Source: BBcNews
